History of CTDIn 1971 Department of Computational Mathematics was created in Physics and Mathematics School of Far Eastern National (State) University. Corresponding Member of Soviet Academy of Science Zolotov E.V. and Professor of the School Gavrilova T.L. took active participation in the Department creation. Priority directions in academic work and research were: 'Computer Software' and 'Computer Application to Oceanology'. In 1986 a major 'Computer Software' moved away from Department with creation of Informatics Department. At the same time, research direction, connected with computational problems in acoustics added to problems of numerical solution of hydrodynamics tasks at the Department of Computational Mathematics. Students and faculty members were sent to postgraduate courses at research centers of Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, and Novosibirsk during more then twenty years of the Department work. More than 15 former students and faculty members of the Department successfully completed postgraduate courses and defended their Ph.D. (Candidate of Science) dissertations in that period. Some of them brought to the Department new research directions, connected with study and creation of modern software and with mathematical modeling of economic processes and phenomena. As a result the Department was renamed in December 1995. The Department graduates and former faculty members formed and form now the base of the four departments of Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science: Computer Technology, Informatics, Computer Software, Mathematical Physics and Computer Modeling.
